Mission Statement:
"To teach Self Management Goals to adults and children to effect lifestyle changes to improve health outcomes."
Healthy Lifestyle Network, Inc. conducts programs in Charleston, South Carolina and in Port Antonio, Jamaica WI. Our focus is to teach self management skills so the participants can become active in their healthcare and be empowered to take charge of their health.
Proper nutrition and increased physical activity are two ways to improve health status. Dietary changes can reduce the risk of heart disease. The prevalence of obesity and diabetes have increased worldwide since the 1980s.
Diabetes,Hypertension and Obesity are health conditions with a high rate in South Carolina and in Jamaica. Healthy food choices and physical activity can prevent these conditions, and if present, can improve the health outcomes of people with them. Our teachings are based on the American Diabetes Association Standard of Care. Participants learn about eyecare, footcare, meal planning, blood pressure checks, kidney checks, heart wellness, and ways to increase physical activity.
In Jamaica we provide medical care, testing for Haemogloblin A1c, and medications. Our goal is to provide all the tests necessary to manage the disease diabetes, and hypertension properly. This medical mission is The Shelton Project and is every March, in honour of Bill Shelton.
Community Health Day is conducted in Charleston, South Carolina the first Saturday in November. Our newest program is the Youth Healthy Lifestyle Jamboree.
